Caught watching ourselves and losing the opportunity of seeing otherness.

Last Friday night Viggo and I went out into the dark.  He had his light hat and I had my “Tommy” light.  He had his little stool and I had an old blue metal folding chair.

We went to down to the pond to see how the tadpoles were doing after I put some more water in the pond.  We set up our stool and chair and shined our lights into our little puddle.   Slowly little water-flea like creatures came into the light. Mama came down to watch too for a little bit.  But before much had happened, Viggo’s head was on my lap and he was

asleep.  Very, very sweet times!  I carried him inside to his Mama and she put him to bed.

On Saturday we took three ponies for a ride.  Viggo was showing off how he can turn his horse to his 9 year playmate Robert, who comes by on the weekends because he stays with his Grandfather who lives across the street.

I walked out with Duchess and Shuna on Abby and Viggo on Anna.  On the way back I got on Duchess.  She moved when I got on and took off, which is not great.  But I stayed on.

I then trotted up a hill with her.  Both Viggo and Shuna were still a ways behind me.  Viggo and Anna started to catch up to me, but Anna broke off into a gallop. Viggo was crying.

I turned Duchess around to block Anna and stop her.  Anna did stop in front of me.  I reached out to grab the reins and my saddle slipped off to the side and I fell off.

I was pleased the horse did not fall on me and that Anna did not step on me.  I hurt my shoulder and wrists.  Viggo stayed on and did not get hurt and I was proud he stayed on.

Anna kept acting up and Shuna got her by the reins and Viggo got off.  There were lots of mosquitoes and she is pregnant, we are not sure what set her off.

Viggo will be riding Duchess or Bess from now on until we have more time to work with Anna.  Both Duchess and Abby did well during all of this.

I am thankful that Viggo did not get hurt.  I will also make sure there is not that much distance between him and me in the future when we ride.

Also, Carly gave birth on Saturday night to a beautiful black filly.   Shuna want out around 11pm to check on Carly and she heard a “Sswissh”  and when she got to her, there was the baby!

Carly is a very good protective mother.  The baby is a beautiful creature.   I just saw her trotting around.   I am not sure Carly wants her trotting around.

The world our understanding should be broadened beyond our own limited interpretations and opened to a much larger, fuller experience.

I believe the challenge of our times is being caught watching ourselves and losing the opportunity of seeing otherness.

I am thankful for this opportunity.
