“Man plans, God laughs.”

It is Tuesday. Viggo and I will be going to see my mother today. Viggo and my mother get together very well and it is a pleasure to witness.

We have been investing a lot in the farm over the last year. Our financial investment has been huge for us and our personal investments has also been sizable. For Shuna, the personal investment has been hard for her. We may need to scale back some of this investment, to be able to maintain our ability to invest in the longer term.  Our goal is to encourage appreciation and hope within ourselves and in the world with this farm, this project, this experiment. I am honored to be able to be involved in this project, but I believe it is generally known that the goals one pursues become more elusive as one purses them. Our experience at Cascadia Heritage Farm seems to be following this norm.  I also believe the ideas of hubris addresses the challenges when one makes plans, they are inherently flawed because one had the pride to make them.  Another few phrases that come to mind in reference to making plans are, “The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray” and, “Man plans, God laughs.”

I guess we are in good company as we struggle with our plans and aspirations.

I am thankful for this opportunity here at Cascadia Heritage Farm and appreciate the ongoing challenges we face.
