Two Malay Chickens Hatch Cascasdia Heritage Farm

We have a short video of Viggo and me watching some Malay chicks hatch around 1/25/22. The parents are Malays we recently got from Jorge Clark of Arizona. He has the best Malays in the USA in our humble opinion.  Thank you Jorge for doing a wonderful job. Here is some info on the bloodlines from the parents: Jesus Lanos of Florida who has Rodney Profit bloodlines, Jim Zook of Pennsylvania, Anthony Williams of Arizona, and Leonard Storms of Kentucky.

It is very exciting to have chicks hatch and they hatched right before Viggo’s 7th birthday which made it extra special. There is something about hearing the peeping of chicks which fills us with hope.  One chick hatched a little early and looked extremely healthy and then a few days later another hatched. We were concerned since one was in there for a few days and getting hungry that he might start pecking on the other that just hatched. There was a third that was trying to hatch too. We were also concerned about opening the brooder while the third was hatching because they dry out, which makes it harder for them to get out of the shell. We did put a warm wet paper towel in the brooder after opening it to help with humidity. The third chick did have trouble hatching and I helped it even though I know I should not. It was a very sad bird and died a few days later. It’s hard not to help when you see the egg rocking and hear it peeping for days.

We are excited to add two new Malays to Cascadia Heritage Farm. We are really pleased that they are vigorous, and their bloodlines will contribute to our M.I.G.H.T project, Malay invigoration gene hybridization team. Cascadia Heritage Farm will be also looking in and out of the US to find Malay bloodlines to help invigorate the American Malay.  We plan also to reintroduce more foundation stock to the American Malay such as the Kulang, Kolongi, Lari and Hint to add vigor.

We are excited to continue our mission at Cascadia Heritage Farm, we believe we can make a difference and that you can too.
