We have a short video of Viggo and me opening an exciting package from Jorge Clark of Arizona that arrived on Wednesday December the 5th. Jorge did a wonderful job packing these birds, and in our humble opinion Jorge has some of the best Malay chickens in the United States, keep up the great work Jorge!
I made a few errors in the video about their ages but corrected in the write up below.
I received a call from the post office a 6 am. I was expecting the call. We got to the post office around 7:30 am. The two boxes were taped together, and the postman said, “These are heavy you will need both hands.” He was right, they were heavy! Once Viggo and I got in the car, we opened the boxes a little to make sure they were alive. Viggo reached his hand in and they both made nice chicken clucking noises. Viggo and I both said with relief, “They’re alive!” We got them home safely.
Viggo started opening the box with the partridge brown Malay hen. Viggo exclaims, “She is humongous!” This hen by Jorge Clark was hatched in 2020 from a large black Malay hen from Jim Zook of Pennsylvania mated to a Malay rooster from Jesus Lanos. Jim Zook’s family has been very active in the poultry world for years. Viggo pets the hen gently and says, “She is very smooth.” She is a beautiful large hen and we are thrilled to have her.
Next Viggo opens the box with the black breasted red rooster that was hatched 2019.The known bloodline of this rooster is bred from a Malay of Anthony Williams from Arizona and hen from Leonard Storms of Kentucky. Anthony breeds many large animals along with Malays. He bought his Malays from Jesus Lanos of Florida, who got his Malays from Ronnie Profit of Florida. Ronnie Profit had been raising some of the largest Malays in the USA. Viggo helps me show off this rooster’s wonderful large walnut comb. What beautiful and exciting birds! Our goal is to have GIANT, VIGOROUS Malays with HUGE WALNUT COMBS!
Cascadia Heritage Farm is pleased to be adding these bloodlines to our M.I.G.H.T project, malay invigoration gene hybridization team. Cascadia Heritage Farm will be also looking in and out of the US to find malay bloodlines to help invigorate the American Malay. We plan also to reintroduce more foundation stock to the American Malay such as the Kulang, Kolongi, Lari and Hint to add vigor.
We are excited about our new birds and we at Cascadia Heritage Farm believe we can make a difference and that you can too. Thank you Jorge for supplying us with wonderful birds.
