It is my mom’s 82nd birthday and we are leaving shortly to take her
out to lunch.
Viggo and I accidently killed two of our very rare Crevecoeur chicks.
Tommy, a family friend, was kind enough to help fix a charger for
Viggo’s toy tractor and in the process the heater for the chicks got unplugged. I should
have checked after they were done working to see if they had unplugged
or plugged them in.
The possibility did not even occur to me. The next day in the morning
when I checked on them, one was long dead and another doing poorly. I
brought one in to warm it up under a light and was helping it to
drink, but it died later that day. I was upset.
Viggo knew their heater was unplugged but forgot to make sure it was plugged in.
I forgave him and he forgave me. We still have three chicks that are
doing well from the 8 that we originally got. What struck me was how
I really dislike seeing these animals die. It bothers me.
Secondly, how clearly this illustrates that we matter, what we do matters, we can
make a difference. I find this to be very uplifting.
I am also experiencing how precious time is, my time to make a difference.
I want to make a difference with the remaining time I have.
I am truly thankful for this opportunity.
