It is almost a month since I last wrote.
It has been a challenging time.
As I last wrote, Shuna did a wonderful job getting her mother healed and out
of hospice. The next challenge we had was getting Karen intensive
physical therapy. Home Health, a house call service, did offer some
therapies, but after being in bed for over 8 months Karen needs intensive therapies.
After some arm twisting, Providence who released her to hospice with a
misdiagnosed UTI, took Karen back. Karen took out her own trach tube
which was hindering her from getting services at Providence. Now
getting intensive physical therapy should be much more available to her, but with Covid
virus it is still proving to be difficult to get these services. We are excited
that Providence is looking to offer Karen inpatient rehab. It all has been quite trying,
but we believe we have done a good job. We believe we are trying to encourage ATM, but
there certainly is a lot of darkness and despair in certain corners of existence.
I found Karen being misdiagnosed with a UTI and almost dying from it multiple times both at UW and Providence to be a hard pill to swallow. It appears from our experience that seniors, especially senior women are at a disadvantage for receiving quality healthcare. I would like to encourage this to be changed, improved upon. Women over 55 should be tested weekly for UTI while in hospital, hospice, homecare, or nursing homes and treated for these infections.
I would like to encourage the healthcare industry to make these changes.
Shuna, Viggo and I all have fevers.
To tell you the truth, I have not felt healthy in a long time.
Hopefully we can get healthier and encourage hope in ourselves and others.
I believe strongly in the values of ATM and that one wants to
encourage light to shine out of ourselves and others.
I am thankful for this opportunity.
